Miva Merchant Conference 2010 Resources #mmconf

If you're going to the Miva Merchant Conference in San Diego at the end of February, keep a link to this post as I'll update it with links to useful information both before, during and after the conference.

Twitter Feed: The hashtag for the conference is #mmconf. I created this feed page where you can watch Tweets updated every minute.

Pics: Leslie Kirk has been taking photos at the conferences for so many years that she's pretty much the official conference photographer. You can see past conference photos, and she'll be posting new photos throughout the conference.

Class Schedule (PDF): The official schedulemay change around a little as most of these types of events do. Here is the current agenda.

Facebook Event Page: Official event page on Facebook.

If you have any suggested resources/links, please let me know in the comments here. And come back often to see updates. I hope to see you in San Diego!

Miva Merchant People to Follow on Twitter

If you're using Twitter, you can follow people who often post about Miva Merchant, including the company itself! I've compiled a list of Tweeple who are in some way related to Miva Merchant - developers, designers, hosts, users, etc. and put them in a Twitter List:

http://twitter.com/MerchantTuts/miva-merchant

Bookmark the list because I'm going to add to it as I find new Miva-Tweeple. If you are not on the list, let me know at @MerchantTuts and I'll add you.

Thank you to Sabine Sharp (@GlendaleDesigns) for help in compiling this list.

What do you think about foul language on Twitter?

OKAY! I could not find a working WordPress Survey plugin! So I put it on Survey Monkey. Please respond and share if you're a Twitter user:

http://www.surveymonkey.com/s.aspx?sm=yH_2bonza32LG6Hr4Dr6p6gg_3d_3d

Results as of January 30, 2009:

1. How do you feel about Tweets with foul language?

  • 40% I am fine with it.
  • 6.7% I am fine with it and use it regularly.
  • 0% I'm offended but still follow.
  • 0% I'm offended and unfollow when I see it.
  • 53.3% It depends on the severity and/or frequency of the foul language. I might unfollow if bad enough.

2. Should Twitter or a third party Twitter app allow a filter or word-replacement function?

  • 53.3% Don't be silly. Censorship has no place on Twitter. People can unfollow if they don't like it.
  • 6.7% I'd be interested in an option in Twitter or third party app.
  • 6.7% Twitter should filter foul language automatically for everyone to protect the children.
  • 33.3% I don't care if someone makes an option. I wouldn't use it.
  • 0% If a filter option existed, I'd stop using Twitter.

If you haven't responded, please respond as the more data, the better.

Do you Twitter? If not, you should!

Not only have I been having a fantastic time with Twitter, I've been developing some great relationships with highly interesting - and influential - people. I don't have a particular agenda, as many Tweeps do with ongoing sales pitches. Instead, I'm just being myself, chatting with others, seeing where it takes me. I spend a bit too much time on it, I admit, but it is more enjoyable than television or the news. Whether or not anything professional or financial comes out of it, I believe it's worth my time.

If you are on Twitter, you can follow me here:

http://www.twitter.com/MerchantTuts - Where I Tweet about Miva Merchant and MerchantTutorials.com

http://www.twitter.com/chucklasker - Where I Tweet about personal things and marketing/social networking

There are a ton of tools that help make Twitter easier to use. As you can see, within only a few weeks, I've gotten very far in my Twitter "success:"

http://twitter.grader.com/ChuckLasker - At this moment I'm the 31st most "elite" Twitterer in Indiana, right above the Governor. Sweeet!

Won't you join me? If you do, follow me, I'll follow you, and then let me know if you need some help with etiquette questions or technical questions.
